On August 19, 2026, at Thiskyhall Sala Convention Center, Ho Chi Minh City, Natural Science Company (HUSCO), University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, alongside Priva Horticulture B.V. (the Netherlands) and Golden Gate BCE GLOBAL Group (the Netherlands), signed a tripartite cooperation agreement to pilot a precision irrigation and fertigation model for sustainable coffee production in Vietnam.
Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Anh, Director of HUSCO, stated: “The cooperation agreement aims to bring precision irrigation and fertigation technology from Europe into practical coffee cultivation in Vietnam, contributing to building sustainable, resource-efficient, and climate-resilient agriculture. The project will be piloted across 1 hectare of coffee in the Son La area, utilizing technology that delivers water and nutrients precisely to the crop’s root zone, enhancing resource use efficiency, while establishing a technical basis for scaling up the sustainable coffee production model.”

The deployed technology system aims not only to optimize the use of water and fertilizer, but also opens up broad applications in enhancing coffee cherry quality. Through precise control of nutrient conditions and moisture in the root zone, the technology contributes to improving bean quality parameters, supporting the transition from quantity-based to quality-based production – a pivotal trend in Vietnam’s coffee exports today. Enhancing product quality will help increase added value and better meet the stringent standards of international markets, particularly the European market.
In particular, the system supports monitoring and controlling carbon emissions during cultivation, while also being piloted to manage water footprints. These indicators are increasingly emphasized by European markets within sustainable agricultural supply chains. Proactively piloting and integrating these monitoring tools enables the parties to anticipate future trends in the European market, where requirements for environmental transparency, emissions reduction, and efficient resource use are becoming prerequisites for market access.
The agreement opens up cooperation opportunities in water resource management, agricultural environmental monitoring, and the development of regenerative agriculture solutions in Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region. Accordingly, the parties agreed on specific responsibilities during implementation. Priva Horticulture B.V. assumes the role of technology partner, providing precision irrigation and fertigation solutions, control systems, sensors, and monitoring equipment, while deploying a team of technical and agronomic experts to support installation, operation, calibration, optimization, and evaluation of the model. Golden Gate BCE GLOBAL Group is responsible for project coordination and management, connecting stakeholders, monitoring implementation progress, and coordinating the resolution of issues arising during execution. Meanwhile, HUSCO undertakes implementation supervision, coordinating pilot site arrangements, technical personnel, research, and necessary on-ground conditions. HUSCO also collaborates with the parties to develop an evaluation metric framework, organize data collection, track performance, and evaluate efficacy, thereby providing a basis for considering the potential to scale up the model in practice.
